I reckon the best thing to tell them is it's for a model making workshop. That leaves you open to be using model makers lathes etc people make some large stuff as models, like the "model" anvil I'm making out of recycled railway track..

What do you actually want to be doing? I mean honestly?

That information may help people here to craft responses that are smoother, whilst not prohibiting your desired activity.

I mean there's no point in saying that you want to do water colour artwork, if you really want to be doing chainsaw work, as you would just be chucked out later, but if you give an accurate response, just in nicer language, it may go down?

it also depends alot on the type of person thats doing the work.

two guys doing the the same job:
one guy is a complete animal, hammering banging grinding dirty so and so at silly hours.
the other guy is aware of his surroundings, doesnt take the mick, uses power tools at normal times in short bursts, keeps the place tidy.
both turn out the same work, but the first guy is a pain in everyones butt and eventually gets kicked out.

i had been working in a workshop on rally cars in the garage behind my parents house (semi-d, im in the countryside now). i did some amount of work in there, usually had 3-4 cars minimum around the house at the time, could be working late and on the weekends.
i just never , or at least tried very hard, to take the mick, was always nice and helpful to my neighbours whenever they needed help etc.

never ever had a problem, they would ask me on the street how i was getting on in rallies etc.

I actually did say in one of my posts what I wanted to be doing, I am actually retired and am only interested in light hobby metalwork, scroll work, weather vanes, steam punk sculpture, nothing on an industrial fabrication scale.

How big does the unit need to be, and how near to Ciren ?

Actually between Cirencester and Seven Springs, if that makes sense? Double garage size would be plenty. Not even large double garage really. IvI' been in the corner of some friends workshop for the last two years since giving up my own larger shop when my back went south, so even a single garage size would be an improvement!

certain units are only for certain type of use, so the ones that tell you to go away may not be categorized for heavy industry type work.
or the landlord has had problems with messy car repair tenants in the past so now just wants clean people in.
