V8 automatic 110

Currently i have a 300tdi in my 110, that im actually quite bored with and i need a project to keep me occupied while im only working part time.

I dont really want a rover v8, not really a fan of them.

It needs to be something british for me to get insurance (i dont want to build something i cant insure again )

Was thinking of a jaguar v8 and autobox but i have no idea how the electrics work

4ba/6ba diesel??
V8 is nice but would be easier to run it on mega jolt and a carb especially in something as agricultural as a landy

Impossible for me to get insurance on a cummins
Straight 6 4 liter jag engine might be better, i could probably mate it to a disco auto box which would then mate to the lt230

Electronic box on the later jags nightmare to wire seemingly, they do a stand alone controllers but a bit expensive. a nice 3.9 as everyone else wants a 4.6 now, zf4 hp22 gearbox from a jaguar and use the ranger rover bell housing, torque convertor and flexplate /adaptor, use either the standards carbs to keep the price down and standard ignition set up, or bite the bullet and look for a cheap chevy !

No point in putting anything on the lt230 out of a 110/90 because they are geared for towing, engine will be screaming its nuts off at 60mph and guzzling fuel. I would look out for an V8 efi engine/gearbox/transferbox out of an older classic RR, the wiring harness for the engine is stand alone and really easy to retrofit into other cars. Probably cheaper to get the whole car and muller it, it would have all the other bits you need like exhaust, gear cables, levers etc to aide the conversion. its also something landrover fitted so may be an easy task to insure. Straight six engines in landrovers have to have restricted front axle movement to stop them clumping the sump.

That's down to diff ratio isn't it, 4.7:1 instead of 3.54:1 ? Later coil sprung should all be 3.54:1

On ebay there is alsorts theres a tvr v8 and a vaxhaull branded 5.7 chevy v8

Landrover stopped using 4.7 diffs yonks ago in the series age, all the later classic RR`s and landys were 3.54`s. They frigged the overall gearing in the transfer box.

Anyway @owas , that efi rover V8 is asleep as they come from the factory . Stick a Hurricane cam and lifters in there from Real steel. crank up the fuel pressure a tad and they come alive in a very dramatic way .

What does it do to the bottom end torque & fuel consumption ?

I've a 3.5 efi in a TR7, it gets a bit lacking at the top end of the rev range but I'm more interested in the 1000 to 3000 rpm section, as it stands at the moment it pulls nicely from low revs. I'd happily have more power but not at the expense of loosing the bottom end grunt, most cams seem to improve the top end but you loose it at the bottom.

You want a 1.003 ratio box from a 3 speed Range Rover, or buy the kit to convert your box

I managed to free up the fuel pin on the injection pump on the 300tdi and put a boost pin in, i dont think i want it faster than it is now
Ill just put a disco automatic box behind it instead
