I'm planning on making something similar to the following:

But with an adjustable fence:

Unfortunately most of the the drill guides seem to be made of fantastic plastic!

Big v block would be my starting point.
Add bushes for replaceable drill guides.

Are you saying use a V Block as the foundations?

Replaceable Bushes would be good, But would have to be a press fit I can only assume?

For the top image yeah.
Threaded bushes? Or top hat style pushed in.
Quick and easy to make
Could add parallel bars fitted in through holes for a fence.

In fact a v block would make a very effective jig for drilling dead center through round bar

Perfect project for a 3D printer, print your design then press in some steel bushes.

I agree, very nice 3D printer project but I'd use ball race bearings as the bushes pressed into the plastic body, one top and one bottom for each drill size, no better use for those cheap Chinese bearings!
