Machine Tools in Literature

For want of a better title I decided upon this.

I'll be uploading more pics as I get the chance to photograph the book. The two part volume 'Machine Tools' is from 1911 and features some of the most up to date machinery from the era - it's a fantastic set and I highly urge you to seek a set out. There's also a set on heat engines which is less impressive but equally interesting.

These books have lift-the-flap illustrations which can be explored via the key - lots of flaps, lots of drawings, really amazing stuff. I bought them last August whilst in the UK for eighty quid the pair which is pretty good going as I've seen sets go for over 200! I've still not read them fully but here are some illustrations I think you lot will like

It’s two books. Two volumes, I & II. It’s by James Weir French

I also have the Oliver woodworking machinery catalogue from 1929 if anyone is interested

also have 2 books simmilar rescued from the dump........
1 on steam engines and boiler rooms......all little flappy bits o paper to dismantle the engines etc.......

plan on giving them to a steam museum when I'm powdered down ..........hahaha......

if you like steam engines, a trip to bolton is great day out (when they are steaming)

I have some old Caxton books from my Grandad, the pages with illustrations look very similar but they don't have these other lift flap drawings.

The thing I like about the illustrations in this book is that the machines are real examples and named - someone has actually had to completely dismantle one or reference the parts lists to draw the insides. Every flap has two sides and must be replaced in a precise order otherwise it won’t close properly.
