Seized bolts

Morning guys .
Any idea on another method of trying to remove two seized bolts. I have heated them and tried just about everything else.
The two bolts are on my Peter Wright vice. I was hoping to avoid drilling them out. I bit worried about hitting it to hard and busting the cast.

could you not weld a big nut on the end sticking out and wind them out ?

done this a couple of times on my sons mini moto on snaped bolts

I could try welding a nut on. Will give it a go.

The problem with heating is everything gets hot .
I bet if you put them nuts on the other side with a good cup to fill and lots of juice swirling the puddle around as it fills the cup and get a good wrench straight onto the job them will move.
Be tempted to leave in a bucket of kerosene a few days first mind (just remember to get some solvent on the bits being welded first)

If those threads are still accessible, I'd put as much torque onto a nut as I could - then heat the entire thing. You may have to go through that process a few times but if it starts to shift, you know you're on the right track.

In between times, all the suggestions above look pretty good too, especially electrolysis but you'd have to clean off a lot of the oil first. Incidentally, neat acetone is apparently the best fluid for releasing seized fixings. Better than all the other proprietary fluids which dilute the solvent additive with oils to save on costs and compromise on finish etc.

Sometimes time is the best healer - as said before, kerosene and oil for three months finally got some screws moving in an old Parkinson wood vice I have restored. That was a tough one.

The welding went good. But unfortunately broke the 5/8 bolt.

can you get inside eather side of the vice and use one of these to remove both sides of the screw and then theres less surface rust to contend with and weld a nut back on again this time it should move

or back to soaking the unit for a while

forget that seen the first pic your back to soaking the unit for a while

I think I read elsewhere on here that a mix of acetone and ATF works very well - presumably because the acetone on its own will evaporate pqd?

Yer will try that. Ain't giving up yet. Will try everything. But I think it's going to resort to drilling

if you manage to get another nut attached try a decent rattle gun on it rather than lots of leverage

Instead of Welding a nut on get a heavy washer and weld it on (puddle weld) same as what you’ve done, then weld a piece of flat on it’s edge onto the washer, you’ll find with the washer welded you’ll get a bit more penetration into the broken bolt, if you get it moving don’t unscrew it out in a one’r, slacken, tighten, slacken, spray with penetrating-oil etc.

I've had great success by partly drilling out the bolt say drill 1/2 inch hole half or a third of the way down the seized bolt then fit a decent punch and give it a good whack or even better get a air hammer on it and rattle it for a while.

Hasn't failed yet even on seriously sized pins.

I done one of em. Drilled it out to 13mm. Couple of taps and sorted. Now on to the second. Happy days

Never heard that one ever, acetone? The better penetrating oils are often kerosene based though.
Will look into that one I get a lot of rusted solid brought to me and always up for something better though if it is

That was quick, I'd say you were hammering while I was typing.
it's a great method, like bottom driving a pile, you don't lose any energy in the shaft (or in mushrooming over the bolts)

I didn't believe it either until I read a paper(!) on it which did a scientific test (iirc).
