He may have said satellite rather than GPS, not sure but he didn't say mobile phone.

I haven't got a mobile phone anymore so can't say how good a signal I would get these days, but can see a mast from my window, probably a mile away. When the internet was first rolled out they were going to use the electricity wires to carry the signals, didn't happen in the end due to "technical difficulties" but surely it would be the ideal carrier network for smart meter signals.

I had read about utility providers in other countries rolling them out then hiking up the tariffs based on peak usage.

This is the primary and sloe reason they want the role out as large and as fast as possible. I wont be having one till there is no option. Dont like the idea of a contactor built into the meter either. I have only seen one burnt out electric meter over the years (due to lose terminal), But have seen lots of failed and burning contactors, failed when the terminals burn and go high resistance.

Exactly my point. Why do i need a meter to tell me what things are using most power. If it doesn't need to be on, turn it off. If i need it, it stays on. Simples.

Sounds very much like another ill thought out inititive costing lots of money that falls flat on its ****.

We dont need them....its the Suppliers that need them.....do away with the men reading the meters and the problems that "estimated" bills create

M25 J16 to 21 was fast even at rush hour times clockwise until they put the "smart" system in! Now it's stop start most of the way and if anyone breaks down there's no hard shoulder any more so it jams right up!
Only thing that works are the camera's....
If I only had one year in power.....

as you have found out you can say no to them but what happens if theyve done it dirtily there a swine to get them removed

They opted themselves in & must have thought I would just given way to having the meter fitted. I understand that the companies have financial penalties if they don’t meet their targets for fitting them, hence every underhand trick is being used.
