shelving above a lathe but is it safe ?

ive not got much room in my shed so shelving its very helpful

ive built the shelf above and its now filled up with stuff

now im wanting a shelf below it

the black shelving is where i want the shelf to go it just goes past the centre point of the lathe but is high enough for maintenance i can use a smaller shelf instead thats 3" shorter

but is it safe due to the lathe being below it

put a lip around the edge so nothing vibrates or falls off it, likewise i have a shelf above mine.

I would not personally. Something comes off when running things could get nasty.

You only need to be sensible with what you put on them and make sure they are fixed well.
I don’t see it to be a bad thing to do.
Your not gonna start storing cannon balls above it are you?

The lathe I use has shelves above, below and to the side.
No issues, but only put stuff on them connected with Lathe use.

If you do, I'd go with the advice to put a lath around it, to prevent stuff from working off through vibration.

Superglue and feathers...

lathe spinning up and ball bearings been dropped through a spinner device wonder how fast they go

I put bolts into wall to hold them up not brown plugs

my thinking is a 3mm 2" angle iron on front so shelf drops into it leaving an 1" lip on front adge

175 Ibs. capacity

Thanks. That's the one I bought from @MattH. Stripped, cleaned, painted and stuck back together. You might have noticed it's the Tri-Leva one, not a lot of those about afaik. No gearbox though.....

And it does get used.

I have a shelf above mine with my oils cans etc on, with a lip on the front, it is attached to the wall and the lathe running doesn't make any difference.
