@Agautosport is it correct that due to the gas shortage you have not been sending dealers there order of 5% in 10 litre cylinders due to cutting down on the amount that are being filled this is something I was told by a dealer when getting some prices yesterday

Regarding sealant etc on the threads
Went to weld the other day and bottle absolutely peeing out, took reg out I’d damaged the fitting
I wrapped some ptfe on the end (not the threads) and assembled it, tested with proper ldf and then turning bottle off with the reg closed to see if the gauge dropped
While I was testing I ordered a new reg...
No sign of a leak so did my welding job. I can’t see ptfe on the fitting causing a problem, it’s an inert substance and safe to use on wholesome (drinking) water and (in a slightly different form) natural gas and propane

I would be careful doing that, some tape could possibly get into the reg and screw it up. I have seen lots of issues on hydraulic steering systems on boats with PTFE tape being used,similar with air systems and solenoid valves, bits of tape get in there and block things up. Most recommend using paste rather than tape on steering systems.
Fair enough it got you going until you can get a new fitting but just sharing a possibility of what could happen.

Me neither - I just recall seeing that post I've linked to above; they have an agent near where I work but BOC is closer to home and, ultimately, cheaper so far but I will re-evaluate when my BOC rental comes up for renewal.

Ok so you have done a temporary bodge to keep you afloat but at least you ordered a new one with the intention of putting it right. Most would say “fixed”

It was badly damaged and I had had my Disco up on axle stands with the front end removed. I had to start that day or I would have missed my MOT appointment
With respect he is willing to point in the direction of there cylinders holding more and allso in another thread about there gas prices not going up because of the shortage of gas and I thought as it was signed Allan SGS gases LTD . So I would of thought it was simple for a clarification on a statement made by a dealer who was basically saying they did not have the 10 litres should definitely available but had plenty of 20s so basically pushing me towords a 20 I already have two bottles from another company and I was doing a comparison between the two

I finally got time to do a bit tig practice, and my new argon bottle is fine, but now my brand new regulator is probably goosed. The gas out regulator dial is flapping about as if it’s trying to take off, and sounds like a machine gun. I used a flow meter on the torch, and it ‘seems’ to be a fairly constant flow.
Can I assume the diaphram may be toast? I thought I’d take it off the bottle, and give it a shoogle, then try it again. Meanwhile I will order another one.
As to the tig welding.
At least I started to coordinate the left hand feed, with the torch.....kind of.

Hi,
Just saw this post.
We stopped filling 50 litre 15% mix cylinders to conserve the CO2 we had but that Europe wide shortage has come to an end.
The distributor may have been confused as we have been waiting for more 10 litre cylinders to arrive, again that issue has been resolved with 1100 cylinders being delivered tomorrow (yes Sunday)
