Automatic gates...Snowcat??

Anyone got any recommendations for the best - and affordable - auto gate kit?
It's a bit of a minefield when you start googling.

I was looking at this company on ebay selling Quiko gate openers, then found a forum with a post by - surely you - Snowie, saying you'd used them. Are they as good as they say? The price seems good. The link shows the openers that would be suitable for us, i.e. for 2 x galvanised farm gates 2.4m each leaf.
The only thing I was a bit dubious about is that although there's a 2 year guarantee on parts you have to pay the packing and carriage from Italy
Any advice gratefully received!

I bought a sliding gate opener on ebay a while back, company I bought from was US based "Baldwin Pines" total cost was between £200 to £250 max. Opener manufacturer are called Gatekeeper Ltd and, I found this seller on the bay flogging Gatekeeper type/style you are after.

I had no problem purchasing from the US, sale was trouble free, delivery was very swift, in fact, this was my first ever purchase from ebay. Opener was easy but fiddly to install, and works very well with no problems to date!

i have repaired automatic gate's in a previous job the main manufactures we used was FAAC and CAME. They both woked well. and used a elctro hydrolic systems so have a lot of force to open the gates in any weater. the gates they were on were big heave steel gates in factory sites.

CAME are the best in my opinion. This is all we fit. We have tried numerous other, cheaper, versions but have ended up with far too many problems with dodgy circuit boards, leaks to housings etc. Came's technical department is second to none, and their kit is real nice to install.
I don't think they sell to the public, but i can get hold of whatever you need.

What were you doing on BFF Ratty? Its a tightrope of arguments flamings and heavy handed mods.....

Anyhow yes tis was me and Iv bought 3 sets of activators from them, they run out of Earls Cone airfield off the A12 (they also sell airplanes,I kid not), not a million miles from you, so you could always vist and collect in person....

I have gates at around a ton a leaf, been up 3-4 years untouched... the guys give you there Mobile no.s so if theres any issue with instillation you can give them a ring...

They cover themselves with the warranty because theres quite a few buy the kit balls instillation then try and claim, mostly they do repairs in house

I have no problems with them........

Hmmm, we inherited a job with the MOD that involves CAME door openers. So far, out of a dozen, five have suffered PCB failures. To be fair, CAME have sold us new PCBs sharpish (no suggestion of exchange though) although we note that the new boards feature uprated components and heat sinks.
For the sake of continuity, on a mobile xray facility we're currently building for the MOD, we've opted for the same series (but more powerful) as the existing ones. First hint of unreliability and it'll be the last time they get our business,
The door in question is 2.2 x 1m, 65mm thick and lined with 12mm of lead It weighs 300Kg (ish, I dicked myself lifting one corner of it this afternoon)...

Thanks Guys, don't think I want to go down the import route runnach but cheers for input. Mixed opinions on Came I see, but maybe they've improved the later models. That's a very kind offer Paulie, may take you up on it..any idea of the cost for above ground swing openers for our two gates? I like the sound of a good tech. dept. Is it fairly easy to install? Shan't be doing it myself but sparky isn't a gate specialist (just bright and very good so assume he will tackle it no prob unless you know better? nasty pitfalls?)
Snowie - I wasn't exactly on the BFF, I g'led something like auto gates reviews and tadaahh! there you were. I'm tempted by them mainly cos they're close and the ebay offer is cheap..then again our sparky said best to get 24v..(not sure why apart from less danger of killing oneself) and I'm not too impressed with the idea of paying if there is a manufacturing defect that needs resolving.. Oh dear..decisions decisions

Ratts there 24V, theres a transformer on the main PCB....... I think most are simlar TBH, they all seam Italian made anyhow....

Nah - just paid what he quoted me on the phone, worked out about £400 ex vat for system with 2 remotes + 2 extra remotes and a keypad.
What a nice man! I was there ages getting advice, drinking coffee and chatting... and he remembers you. Managed to avoid the wings until I was rummaging in his skip (can never walk past one) and forgot it was there and bonked the side of my head
Found loads of mushrooms on the airfield, went clothes shopping in Bury St Eds on the way home and had a thoroughly nice day (despite the rain).

All I have to do now is do a bit of jiggling on the gates for attaching them..and get them fitted. Ho hum

Yoohoo Snowy I just had to order a new keypad for the gates as the original one finally gave up and despite my efforts I couldn't get it working again. Seeing as it's been nearly ELEVEN years since I bought them I was very impressed to find the company was still in business, still in the same premises, with the same phone numbers and the same very helpful Jack on the end of the phone. A rarity in this age I think and a testament to the quality of the openers...which continue to work despite one of the gates being rammed and bent out of shape!
Hooray for Italian engineering (and phew 'cos I just bought a Fiat!)

I couldn't find a website for the UK agents but they sell on Ebay contact details are on there.
