This old boost unit of mine is awesome, separate transformer on/off, star delta idler starter and a manual 'boost' capacitor start button. The later one I also had was really terrible. My 23kVa Perkins would only just start it

That sound like a voice of a man who hasn't terminated much 35mm 5 core swa, horrible stuff.

Try 150mm2 single core... Even with a hydraulic crimper it's still difficult, don't particularly want to mess it up either as the boggo standard bolted crimps are £30+ a pop. PowerLocks are on a different level...

Even worse try bending the damn thing. Never resorted to using a grinder to cut a cable but in this instance it felt appropriate.

Once you get up to the bigger sizes kit normally has decent spaced spreader boxes in the incoming and outgoings to accommodate bigger cable.
Its working big cables with smaller isolators, they should give the designers a few meters to cable and the get them to terminate it in the enclosures they design, things might improve then..

I wired up an American designed and built AC/DC load center about 10 years back, having so much space was just awesome... Finding a wall space big enough to mount it was less awesome...
