Rotabroach fault

I have just scored a Rotabroach Falcon from a skip unfortunately and not too surprisingly it doesn't work!
The the spindle rotates slowly briefly then stops.

I don't suppose anyone has any wiring diagrams for this machine? It's the 110v version

Not yet, the gent that put it in the skip seems to think the speed controller has failed. I will see if I can get some time to open it up over the next few days.

Repaired an evolution unit with the same fault for our local agri engineer it was a sensor cost about £8.00 If I remember correctly there is a thread somewhere on here

Back home and a plug on the machine, all looks ok mechanically, plenty of meat on the brushes.

But on a test run it starts up, runs up to full speed regardless of the speed control then shuts down, the board on top of the motor is a hall effect sensor, I wonder if it's not feeding a signal to the main board??

certainly sound like a sensor issue, those wires from the sensor follow down presumably to the black box where the cable goes in. Have you had a look in that for anything daft like loose connections? if nothing obvious i'd start troubleshooting the sensor and work down.

its a 60hz unit, so likely designed for marine/offshore. Not sure if this is having an effect on speed control when used on a 50hz (landlovers) electrical system

It did exactly the same on the rig, that's why it got binned!

Cheers for that, mine is a bit newer with a pcb full of magic bits for speed control. I will get some photos of the board tomorrow. It's laying in bits at the moment I had to replace the wife's cars condenser urgently so it got pushed to one side!

I've had the board off but there isn't much to see, they have glued a backing board on non component side so most of the tracks are covers up so how it's wired up is a bit of a mystery!

Iirc they need to be sat on a decent bit of steel to work. New one at work won’t go if clamped to anything less than 6mm and not allways then the old one will grip suddenly on 3mm and go regardless as long as the magnet is on

It won't start if the magnet isn't switched on, if it is it trys to start.

On my machine, the puma, it hasn’t got any of those boards.

When it does what you’re describing it’s down to the bushes.

Sadly they are hardly worn, the machine is old but I don't think it's done a lot of work.
