no problems with my shtill kit, chainsaw new, used a lot and only had to get new chains, strimmer very secondhand and gets a lot of use on 2 acres,and hedge trimmer also very second hand,got it serviced when bought and been fine every since,so maybes luck of the draw but with less than £400 for the three I am well happy several years down the road.

I love the hedges they are connifers slow growing so much privacy been there years i reakon

Where I lived before we had conifer hedges, good for quick privacy, but hard work to keep on top of. Eventually I got sick, as thed been neglected before we bought the house they were just too big at the base. Chainsaw...the garden grew 6 feet down each boundary.
Now Im lucky enough to have my nearest neighbour behind a cpise of trees 500 yards away, so no hedges required.

mine are about 3 feet each side but I cant cut them down or i would have to fence and the mrs likes them being slow growing they only need cutting once a year sometimes twice

I have a Stihl petrol HS81R, 800mm blade on it. I have a big hedge so thought 'go big or go home', bit of a mistake I think, it's a work out on the arms due to weight, and the missus can't use it at all (biggest issue if you ask me). The length of it makes the job faster though and the power allows you to chew through anything thick, it's a beast but just a tad too heavy for home use.
Something noone has mentioned is i would recommend a pole hedgetrhedge over a conventional one
I would never ever go back to a conventional one
It needs an adjustable angle head but they are so much nicer and more comfortable i use it with a stihl brushcutter harness and can work all day without hands getting tired
Plus you can get a combi tool and only have one engine to worry about maintaining and some of the bigger brands like stihl whilst expensive have a lot of really useful attachments

Got the deWalt 18v cordless.
Bought it because the rest of my kit is dewalt.
It's OK,
Not the best as limited power but got enough to sort the hedge out and will do a half presentable job.
If your hedge is longer than 50meters though will need more than 1 battery.
