Need some sort of a spacer for shock absorber

They work well on the occasions they're needed. Had to resort to one on a fine pitch thread recently. Using the triangular file, as I would normally, would have butchered the threads due to their fine pitch.

Just as an update, the new Hagon retainers came and it’s all good now.

Also used that thread file earlier on the inside of the hum and bearing retainer and managed to get it in!

One problem solved and another appears!

Breaking the carbs down today to put through my US cleaner. There are some teeny bolts in the carb slide that sold the needle in, one of them came pre rounded by the previous owner it seems (saved me doing it at least). Tried a small easy out but I think the bolt is made of harder stuff than the easy out bit.

I have access to the other side of it so tried a 1mm drill bit in a cordless but it constantly wants to wander off and I don’t want to destroy the delicate thread. My bench drill chuck will only go down to 3mm so that’s no good.

You guys have been great so far helping me with my troubles - any suggestions for this?

Went down the heat route as soon as I figured it wasn’t going to come out easily but didn’t help anything

Unfortunately the easy outs seem softer than the bolt so doesn’t want to bite. They are cheap ones from screwfix though.

Should be a mild steel screw and easily drilled if the head has rounded, the slide is chrome plated brass.

those new spring caps look awsome,
the screws that hold needles in are usually loctited in or peined slightly to be very tight screwing in.
you could try putting it in the dishwasher as it will get it blooming hot for a while then try undoing it again.

Got it out in the end being more persistent with an easy out. Will check to see if it has to be loctited in when I reassemble

Holds the needle in place and the slide lifting rod as each carb is opened and closed by an arm operated from a push & pull cable as opposed to the early CB750 which had a 1 into 4 cable.

Left hand drill bit and spend your time setting it up on a drill press. Might be worth getting a bag of smaller left handed carbide bits. Find a solution for fitting smaller drill bits into the drill press, you'll struggle to do that by hand. You may be better off biting the bullet and drilling it out virtually at the tap size for those screws. You don't want to go too small.

Wouldn't do any harm to waft over it with a hot air gun while you're doing it. Get it hot and drill it while it's hot.

It's one of those things you should really take your time over. Gonna be difficult enough finding the right screw let alone a replacement part!
