I am not sure how long it would last because even the OEM samurai blades straight out of the box can be trashed in a day if they are abused on rough ground.

What do you guys think ?

Interesting Mr Bear, not sure about the fecon equipment but a lot of the others are cyanide hardened or carbide . I dont know how welding onto one of these after this process would affect the knives or whether weld itself will last. Worth trying though as they are expensive.

I bought a Parkside grinder specifically to convert it to a dedicated tungsten grinder. A diamond wheel fitted, a few minutes on the lathe and drill and here it is.

Today I completed making these 16 cubby boot/shoe racks to suit a specific curved ceiling profile.

A first for me as the pieces of galvanised weld mesh were all secured with mesh crimps using a set of manual closing pliers.

Chuck key was sloppy and rusted.

Another pin. Perfect size for my rapid indexer.

Turned the bulk off on the lathe before milling the square then chucked it in a collet to finish.

Didnt finish work till gone 8 last night but grabbed half hour this evening.

I do however keep leaving the spindle locked in backgear after tightening the draw bar.
Thakfully the belt is just slack enough to spin on the pulleys.

Well it has been a long haul, originally it was just a hopper and gantry then shelter extension with a sliding door and then finally a flush deck hatch to replace the 500mm high one. Also fitted on a lifting pole that I had made for a previous boat of the Skippers, must be at least 15-20 years ago.
Anyway that is it all done and first fishing will be tomorrow evening/night in the Forth, hopefully all goes well.

Finally a pic of the flush hatch, the fold down picking table and inside that is a chute that goes from the table to over the side via the hole cut in the shelter. Oh also the swivelling basket holder below the funnels.

Been working on the bench grinder I acquired recently. Here's what the rest that came with looked like. I believe it was added on after the fact. At least the sheet metal piece anyway.

I derusted all the parts last night in water and citric acid, worked real well, then I buffed the parts to get the residue off.
Here you can see the new tool rest and some layout lines to indicate where I plan to remove the material. The wheels are 150x25mm or 6x1" if I remember right. Plan to make the support on the sides 20mm deep, I think that will be enough, can't make it too deep or it will start to hit the wheel covers when the wheel shrinks in size.

Sundays work so far, went with a tilting setup after considering a simpler solution. Everything is not yet together or parts properly finished, just a mockup to see the principle. I think the two joints should allow me a suitable range of angles. I will have to give up the knobs too, they are now too large to fit in here. If I had a knurling tool I'd make my own smaller ones, for now I will use a wrench. The top of the table cleaned up well, I chucked in the 4-jaw and faced it.

I don't really know how to get a reliable angle against a round wheel, I think there might be something you can buy in that regards. But I am not planning anything in particular for angles, eyeballing it will have todo.

Not so much made today but finally finished repairing a mates rock sliders for his Land Cruiser. Forgot to take picture before chucking them in the trailer and dropping them off for the galvanisers to collect.

Remind me not to repair someone else's handiwork again, would have been much simpler to build from scratch . They looked the part but after the first hit against a rock in Yorkshire they self dismantled. Every place I looked revealed more things needing fixing. There was also quite a lot of body filler .

Oh well may not be as smooth and pretty but they're now a damn sight stronger.

Will get some piccies when they're back on Wednesday.

Eyeball's good enough for lathe tools (except threading...), and the wheel radius means you only need to hone the cutting edge for a couple of mm to get them razor sharp instead of the whole front relief, much quicker

Rock sliders take some hammer at times i have nwver broken mine but they need re painting from time to time
