It all depends on your budget and use, no need to buy a 75mm steel plate if you are making plant stands and no good using 2mm sheet if you are bashing 10mm bar flat.
Do you need to move it around?
What size do you need.
Some have converted a B&D Workmate with a bit of 3mm sheet on top, others have tables you could drive a car onto.
An old surface table would make a great welding table as long as you never need to move it.
For hobby work 5mm is ok and 10 mm is excellent, even 3mm with support will do at times.
It won't stick on mine either..it's woodI think weld splatter does not stick as much on cast iron
No cnc lazer cut . 16mm corresponded to the clamps that I never actually managed to get the UK importer to sell me. So I made my own up !Kent did you drill the holes yourself ? Is 16mm best size

Even spoke with the manufacturer in that states over my attempts. I think main distrubuters are a very dated and stupid move today
