What shoul I be looking at and roughly how much.

I’ve got a 16” 3 jaw if anyone wants to swap

the jaws aren't reversible in the 3 jaw chuck. u need both sets. an internal and an external set . the 4 jaw are reversible it would be preferable top get a chuck that fits your lathe rather than get a backplate and fit a chuck to it

They are if they are two part jaws or of the Forkardt F variety

Aye but maybe Parm isn't, who knows. Maybe what he meant was he wanted a 3 Jaw chuck with both sets of jaws or maybe he does want one with two part jaws

BTW the Forkardt F chucks are the dogs danglers, I love mine but sure as heck wouldn't want to have to buy one new.

To try and answer some of your questions Parm, all depends on what you are wanting. Most of the Chinese chucks nowadays are half decent but some are still rubbish and none really compare to the likes of Bison, Pratt Burnerd ect
There are also some Taiwanese chucks around which are pretty good, I had/have one, an Auto Strong and it is a nice two part jaw chuck.

I want to be able to hold things where ive seen the jaws put in back to front to allow larger diameter material to be held.

On the chuck ive got the jaws come out but cannot be used back to front

Ok well as @brightspark says, most 3 jaw chucks come with two sets of jaws (Internal and External) You do however get chucks with two part jaws wherby you can reverse the top section of the jaws (or even fit soft jaw tops) and then you also get the Forkardt wedge type chucks which you can reverse the jaws in but unlikely you will be getting one of them unless second hand as they are very expensive.

If it's a self-centring scroll chuck, then you need a second set of jaws. It it's indenpent then they are reversible.

Can you get external jaws for your chuck ?

Yes that is another option, if you know the make then Thame Engineering will likely have something to fit.

I was going to mention tos chucks are good I have one on my Harrison just looked up the prices fat wallet needed .try get a decent second hand pratt burnerd or similar at the right price

I have a 8" TOS chuck it's a nice bit of kit.

What make is your 5" chuck Parm?

Most chucks nowadays, excepting the Chinese ones, are priced from expensive to how bloody much
And yes TOS ones are good.
Problem with second hand is you never know what you are actually getting unless you can try before you buy.

Lathe is a Raglan Little John MKII

The current chuck is 5”, I think it’s a Taylor chuck. It has some sort of threaded backing plate holding it on, I’ve never taken it off to investigate.

I’m a bit lost with all this, but I want something that will fit on my machine without too much fuss so I can do as in the photo below.
Will be handy to hold slightly large diameter material than I can currently hold
