I have a Papermate biro & propelling pencil set, bought as a present by my ex maaany years ago. "Lifetime Warranty" they said. I'm now on [iirc] my 6th set as the 'gold' coating wears off due, I think, to the acid (?) in sweat.

I just post them back and a few weeks later a new set arrives.

I have several PaperMate biros here. I'm thinking of sending them off when the ink runs out, just for cheek.

@Tangledfeet same as the one I bought a few weeks ago which I need to fix down somehow. Not sure if to make it so I can hold it in a vice or whether to bolt it down to the bench.

I don't think I'll be using it much, I just needed something to provide a stable base - and I don't think I'll be cutting anything too unwieldy or chunky! I suppose if you have a secure vice then that might be a way forward?

@Matthew92 I made a base for my bender to use in the vice. Bit of rectangular box. welded to a bit of tread plate, looks like you have mounting holes which you could use to bolt to the base.

I've got a big 6" record vice firmly bolted to the bench, so that would hold it steady. The sheet metal bender I bought has a piece of angle on the bottom so I put that in the vice and it works great. The only thing I think with the shear is it may be a little too high, I'll have to try it, really it just needs a bit of plate to bolt it to with a piece of heavy angle on the bottom. Shouldn't add too much height, I feel if I bolted it to the bench it would either be in the way when I'm not using it and not in the right place when I am.

I'm also on my 3rd Stanley flask, they are pure rubbish. It's really annoying when you look forward to a steaming mug of tea on a cold day & the water in the flask is cold!

Really? What type? I bought a green 2qt steel Stanley flask in 1989, I called them a couple of yrs ago for a replacement stopper, I mentioned it still kept the water hot but not as hot as it did. They offered to replace it without hesitation, an offer I took. Very happy customer. (I asked if they would send the old realy battered flask back to put on my ‘shelf’ but they refused)

At todays car boot I picked up a set of Gilbow shears and some big pliers, can't quite make out the manufacturer the letters I can make out read "Wyna Tim"? Made in England and very heavy.

Trip to the recycling centre today.
As normal a long line has formed, waiting to get in.
Then they decided to shift skips around.
This led to people getting out of their cars and talking.
The gentleman in front and I got talking. Long story cut short.
We swopped loads. He felt that due to the weight of his load he would not be get it safely unloaded. The centre staff have a reputation of going out of their way to be unhelpful.
He took my rubbish I took his.

The gentleman who gave me this has had to give up wood and metal working due to ill health. He was going to slowly going to skip his old workshop. But not now, one evening this week the Local Men In Shed will visit him and he is going to donate his workshop to us.

Yes. it is a Porta-cabin, Men in Shed new workshop to be. We know there is a lot of work to do.
Planning permission is well advanced.
We need the following works done.
New door locks, security bars on windows, new electrics, under body repairs, new plumbing new paint and the list is getting bigger.
I am going to be busy.

Nice little wooden box with a load of old fixings for a couple o quid.

Both vices for 9 quid.

The woden needs attention only moves the jaws sporadically but the screw looks ok. Il strip at some point and see what's occurring.

Slightly off topic but I have a number of local supermarkets, catering suppliers, and shops that I collect all their out of date or damaged packaged foods, been doing this on and off for years, the amount of good food being skipped is unbelievable, there is no need for me to ever buy food, in fact I get so much I can't give it away fast enough, and I've got boxes of fruit, sacks of potato's, crates of beer, trays of eggs, and boxes of tins all over the place. Last year I had so many packets of crisps I was using then as fuel in my wood stove, and last winter I had 95 kilos of new potato's to give away. They are even throwing bottled water away because its out of Date !

not engineering related, but I went to the start of the Tour de Yorkshire race today

and they were giving out free packets of mugshots.....and every time I went past them they gave me some more.......so then you start to wonder how many you can get, eventually I ended up with 35 packets, the daft thing is its not something I eat, but I know someone who does, so it would be rude not to get them some

I have managed to do the following.
A. Tell Mrs TYA.
No stern look and no tapping foot, well not until I told her that it would not be here at home.

B. Have a good look at the parts.
It looks like it is all there, but is need of TLC.
The planer blades are chipped and dull, so they will be replaced. Just need to do some research.
The saw blades are usable, but rusted.

The most serious issue is the motor, yes it works. But one bearing runs hot. It blows the 10amp fuse, but not a 13amp. A strip down is going to have to happen.



Oh yes , new rubber belts.

So now I need to do some research on the new toy.

So now I need to do some research on the new toy.

FLC may well be 9.54A but the starting current could well be 6 times that. A D type breaker could handle it but the tripping curve on a 10A fuse would tell the story.

Bot both motors home.
The fitted motor, wired direct will happy run on a 10amp fuse, but the bearing is now has a classic bearing noise and is still running hot. Start up current is 16.23amps, running is 9.23 amps. measured on my Avo meter, in series with live wire.

The spare motor draws 15.16 amps on start up and 9.05 amps when settled down. But doesn't smell healthy.

Both will be striped, cleaned and a good look at to see what needs to be done.

A quick check shows the fixed wiring and switch has higher than I would like to see resistance, just over 2 ohms.
The wiring is going to be replaced. The switch looks like it can be stripped and contacts cleaned.

Today I acquired a few new new.
chunks out of my fingers.

Handle on my qctp is cast. Snapped at the 6mm thread and my hand carried on going into the chuck.
So busy cursing the mickey mouse lever I didnt notice the blood ******* out of my fingers
Ring finger knuckle skin hinged like a door and a nice slit in my middle finger

Very lucky. Could have been far worse.
