Wolf General Duty Drill

I use mine for driving a winch, tried it once for drilling a hole but it didn't feel safe so never bothered, it would be a shame to scrap it though.

Im sure i have a wolf hand held grinder of the same vintage it has a carborundum wheel instead of a disc i bet there are some horror stories attached to them too

^^ I had a Wolf end grinder, the axis of the wheel was the same as the motor, or may have been offset parallel for gearing, not sure. The insulation failed so I scrapped it. I got that and the gutbuster from a retired locksmith.

using any old crap err I mean gear like that if u value your life fit an rcd plug on it .my gaffers nephew got electrocuted on a site by one he was 17 years old the good news Is got his job

Thinking of fitting it into a drill press stand but judging by the size and apparent torque of this monster I may have to make one to suit it. Still it might end up being a more than capable bench type drill press so long as I can get it running truly vertical

That brought back bad memories

I used to make glove boxes for handling plutonium, to stop the powder building up on uneven surfaces every weld internally and externally had to be ground back and polished.

We had massive hand held air powered grinders with carborundum stones, not too bad on the floor of the boxes but some boxes could not be turned over and you had to work on the vertical and overhead surfaces.

For the corners we used a desoutter and that covered you in thousands of little stainless needles.

It was crippling work, even worse in winter when the machines got a coating of ice on them and some wondered why I left the trade

I have the one like 8ob,number 3 m/taper,treat with respect ,reduce pressure as you near the end of the hole & its ok, however I wouldn't let my workman use it & I have a magnetic drill anyway, yet I still use it for m16/20 countersink bolt holes ,its just the right speed.
I also use it for large hole saws.

I have a few of the wolf cubs, dainty little things but will break your wrist if you don't concentrate. I also have something from wolf that is even rarer, My Dad's workbench from the 50's. When he worked for them. Complete with logo on the front and two round pin sockets. It's buried under a railway layout at the moment so no pictures. And yes he did get thrown across the room from failed insulation

Round at the bike shop there is the big brother of that drill mounted on a press stand. It is lethal.

Best place for it, I have seen the Wolf drill presses go for not a lot on the bay of Eeees and would probably have acquired one at some point had I not been given the Meddings.

And bolt it to the bench....

As above and always use a drill vice that is bolted or at least clamped to the drill press table.
