Does anyone run neat through the winter?
I know you can get pre heater filters and also heat it before the pump with exchangers but it must thicken up in the tank and fuel line.
Is a duel tank system the only way in winter?

I never ran neat in the depths of winter, but i never had any kind of heating for the oil either, i only ever ran new oil too, I never much liked the idea of used.
I really miss my trooper. I'd have another one if i could find one that wasn't rotten (or at least repairable which i didn't have the means to at least attempt at the time), and the smell of doughnuts was a real bonus. I always felt like it ran smoother with at least a bit of veg oil. That said i don't think id be too quick to put any in a direct injection engine with no mods and research, and certainly nothing properly 'modern'.

Realistically, yes. You need to warm the oil before you can use it. Looked into that, and the hassle & cost isn't feasible unless you have your mind set on doing it.

The toyota granvia is a 3.0 diesel and runs very nicely on SVO and MVO, I used to have a place by me that processed used stuff but it smelled slightly spicy, I was getting sunflower oil very cheap for a while and that was good in winter with 10% diesel, Never tried it in modern engines just my old type engines, The old Audi 100/A6 2.5 td 6 speed was very happy on it never missed a beat and so cheap to run.

I ran a Golf (pre direct injection) for a few years, mostly new but for a while used oil from the Chinese filtered through J cloths.
It was great, 50% mix in winter as I couldn't be bothered with pre heating or twin tanks.
Costco oil was what I used, it was at the time about 50% the cost of diesel.

I don't have diesels any more, I decided to run petrol V8s while we are still allowed to, in case one day they get legislated away.

my last 3 series bmw, my mates scoda octavia, a couple of citron vans all single tanked (loads of miles didn't keep track)

Yep I have a twin tanked conversion fitted on the l200 at one time I used loads and bought it by the ibc full nowadays I use very little because I only do short trips and my annual milage is a fraction of what it was I have never had any problems with it and the vehicle actually runs better on it
If running oil in winter you need a heater and twin tank set up and need to choose the correct oil sunflower is best followed by rape and at the bottom of the list is soya the twin tank helps with starting as cold diesels and veg in winter don't go together well as the oil will not atamise through the injectors very well in cold conditions
