corded drill recommendations

Another one bites the dust.
Drill a lot of 100mm and 125mm holes in mild steel.
Any advice on best corded drill would be handy. What’s your preferred choice.

I have a older 2 speed version plenty to slow speed high torque.
Maybe a mag drill but something with enough overhang to take a 125mm diameter cutter isn't going to be cheap.
Big 2 speed dewalts do come up on ebay occasionally.

It’s about the bet for around £270 so it’s close call. The drill would be just for my hole saws.

How many how often, would a cordless brushless milwaukee work out.
The power they have is more that comparable to any corded drill i have used excluding big cordless mores tapper drills.

I’ve never used the Milwaukee kit so can’t say on that note. Have dewalt Bosch and Makita in various guises

A wolf gut buster runs at a nice slow speed & would be perfect for a hole saw. Not sure if you can get a new one but I think they are being made under licence in India. There are plenty around used.

it might be cheap and cheerful but it still does what you need

im using a cut50 played with it plenty of times love it for cutting straight pieces off quicker than grinder have tried cutting 1,1/2" holes in 3mm metal loverly cuts just run a grinder back over the cut area to take the rubbish off it or even hit it with hammer

was it worth the money well to be truthful i wouldnt have bought a new one was looking at one for long enough just wouldnt take the sure bet and buy one

then comes my oh its got one there in shop how much ?

well im not saying how much but guess what i bought it and then played with it

i will buy one now at brand new prices now loverly piece of kit ive cut 3mm 5mm and 10mm with cheap and cheerful cut50

ive also bought the hole cutter to adapt to it from the forums still got to play with that one

Got one of those round at the bike shop mounted on a drill press stand and it is an animal. I wouldn't even consider hand holding it. Drilling a piece of 50x50 box with a 5mm wall. It was 1.5 metres long and it snagged and spun it like it was balsa wood.

I have a Wolf 5/8 gut buster in the garage, I've been spun a couple of times when a drills grabbed, its not nice, its also the main reason why I have a large mag drill now...

Was the box section in a vice that was securely bolted down ? if not

One place I worked at had an air drill that ran at about 120rpm with a pair of handles on it that were 3ft across, you still had to be ready for when that grabbed.

I'm wouldn't mind a Wolf gut-buster but only after I'd made longer handles on it.

125mm hole saws are the work of the devil.

corded drills knacker the holesaw as they are to fast, the holesaw knackers cordless drills as it takes to much driveing. a corded plasters mixing drill or auger drill they work but if they grab the arbour breacks or it throws you or the work about.

Tesco once had a sale on Stanley 650W mains drills. I bought 10 of them - only £5 each! Sold 5 and kept 5 - still going strong. Even a cheap mains drill beats the best battery drill - it is the nuclear power station the other end of the cord that does the trick!

as many of us have the cut50 on here i showed him some links on the forums

including adrians cnc from a cut50
skotl's cutting through thicknesses

for those prices for a hobbyest usage they arnt bad for there money any more heavy work id be looking at a better plasma cutter

however id start off using the cut50

to be fair to them cut 50 machenes they are good bits of kit for what they cost. the amount of use and abuse mine mines had,

id say start off with a cut 50, there a bit clunky to use but if youve got the work for it by the time you've kiiled it it should have erant you a hypertherm

To be honest if you think that is true you haven't tride the new brushless makita and milwaukee
They are significantly more powerful than there corded countrrparts
I wanted a drill for hanging gates on oak posts nothing came close to the big 18 volt drills there is a reason the handles for them are nearly 2 feet long

Another option is the Milwaukee joistdrills
