Stuck Morse taper!

Well you know you've cocked up when you can't find another post answering your question.

I've managed to pick an mt drill bit where the tang is slightly to short, meaning that the drill is very firmly grasped but now I can't get the damn thing out. Any ideas other than beating on it with a punch?

Get a nut or a small piece of metal something soft like ally or mild steel make it fit in the drift hole, slide it in then carefully slide in the drift and a sharp tap. It's a common thing to do when in the position you are. I have the odd drill similar to you and use this method and its not failed me yet.

The same thing happened to me a few months ago didn't think of that fix great idea.

Not really mate, quite the opposite really, this welding engineering lark is my job and has been for 45 years, a few minutes invested in sorting minor glitches like these will repay you in hours and days if you address them straight away.
