Hello gav0994
When you get on top of it would you mind letting us all know a few points about the kind of things that were a concern and very briefly what you did about them.
I think its a subject that interests a lot of us and its good to hear the experience of others.
Its especially interesting with input from Parm, I didn't know you worked for the HSE, I haven't been paying attention.
Today I did a quick walk round of our Loco shed and produced a list of all the issues that require rectification to bring us up to scratch.
- No H&S signs on entrance door
- No clearly defined walking route to bothy
- No keep clear floor markings at the end of all 4 loco roads
- No defined working areas at work bench and pillar drill
- No chuck guard on pillar drill
- No COSHH store
- No Emergency eye wash kit
- No running hot water
- No barriers at inspection pits
- No safety signs - wear eye protection etc
- No compliant step ladders/access platforms to rolling stock within the shed
Some good quality line marking paint will sort out all the floor markings required and suitable barriers can be sourced at Arco or similar.
I also came up with a general list of things missing for the site setup
- No formal induction training for new volunteers
- No personal issue PPE
- No risk assessments for the most common tasks carried out
- No authorised walking routes on the Railway areas
- No formal training for workshop tools and equipment.
