A prediction re ukwelder vets

Following the apparent demise or hwatever of the excellent Ukwelder site, I reckon we will see an upsurge in the depth of technical information being submitted, personally I love this stuff, I always had to know 'Why?' as a kid as well as 'How?' I find if I know both I can understand what I am doing and do it better. There will also be an upsurge in the weirdness factor. Why?

Because these guys have spent years living with their heads in buckets talking to themselves?

I imagine there will be more technical questions, there are a good few bright souls on this forum and i am sure some from UKwelder.com will join our ranks. Which will probaly mean little changes except for there place of discussion (I think the decor here is nicer though ).

I have had enough of Why the last few months. My 3y/o daughter is going through the 'why stage'

Theres very few questions that go unanswered here, occasionally theres a few that we rely on some of the specialists like TechnicAl to answer. More members means more questions, which means even more answers.

My 12 year old boy is still doing that!! then says 'Whatever' and give me that killer look when Pa gives the explanation he deserves. The brat showed no interest whatsoever in relative density and expansion etc etc when talking about ice floating on ponds , he also says 'What' every time anybody in the house speaks. He can also weld a treat.
Life will go on whatever we say or do.

I still am like that - I hate documentaries on TV & radio where they brush over technicalities, listen to arts & politics programmes they go into all sorts of detail, yet get an engineering or scientific topic they just gloss over it.

I remember asking my father "Daddy where do cars come from?" "They come from a factory son" "What's a factory?" "You'll find out later, when you're grown up."

From what I've been reading on here it didn't sound much fun.

UKW was more pro orientated so I get the impression it could get a little bit testosterone fuelled at times. From what I saw on there there were some very highly qualified welders on there who really knew their stuff, hopefully we'll see more of them on here.
This site is aimed more at the diyer so is more 'noob' friendly. I'm sure anyone coming over from ukw will soon settle in here and see how different it is, sometimes you need the patience of a saint not to flare up at certain things that get posted, on ukw it was probably acceptable but we try not to on here although every now and again a thread gets a little out of hand.
I'm sure several ukw members will have had a peek on here in the past anyway and know what it's like.

A friend of mine living in N.Z said he was doing a bit of under water welding,:fi said it was really unpleasant, he said when you call for it to go live you feel it, even in your teeth! Made me glad it's not my game.
