plasterboard fixings

i have a wall in the house which i think is 1" insulated plasterboard dot and dabbed onto the brick

need to fit some screws for a lightweight job , most ive looked at are deeper than an inch or wouldnt open on the rear due to the foam

what can i use please

Screw in about two thirds, unscrew and break off pilot, then screw fully home

less work to put a 4 inch screw in to the old wall drill like you are fitting a normal plug but deep in to the original brick put the screw a few turns in to the plug and tap in to the hole and then screw as normal we used to fit plasterboard fixings when installing sockets for network cabling got fed up with people pulling them off the wall

That's what I learned to do at son's house which had dot and dap. Except I then cut the plasterboard with a hole saw and inserted an offcut of MDF, OSB or other scrap of appropriate thickness cut out with the same holesaw as a spacer so that I didn't crush the plasterboard when tightening the screws. We were attaching wall cupboards, shelves and other load bearing items not picture hooks.

I use the ones Gaz recommended for light weight stuff. Just get a masonry drill bit the size of the core of the fixing and drill in the depth of the fixing. They work better if you pre-drill into the plasterboard anyhow.

as in post 8 just use long screws with rawlpugs pushed in to the blocks then its going nowhere . I use a 6mm drill with red plugs and a no 10 screw

If it is really light, like a picture then why not use double sided tape ?

I've used the "grip-it" types (same as screwfix) a few times, no problem *but* make sure it's deep enough for the "wings" to go behind the plasterboard - if you need force to turn the wings it's not deep enough and can snap. Ask me how I know

If it's lightweight, just use normal red or brown plugs,
If it's medium weight, use expanding metal fixings, hollow wall anchors, the ones where you can remove the screws and the fixing stays in place, or frame fixing into the block wall behind,
