Quick question on workshop stoves

I am building a stove which will have the air damper on the side

This air damper will be operated by a push pull

NOW

Should be pushed in be fully open or fully closed

Is this a flue damper or air inlet valve? In should be the safest condition. If it’s a flue damper in should be open. If it’s an air inlet valve in should be closed.

if air damper is fully closed then the fire will go out however using the damper to lower the high flame and keep a low flame going therefore making your wood burn for longer

using secondary air with an air damper does the same effect but allows more heat output as the smoke is being burnt from your wood

if you are building a stove consider using or implementing secondary air into your system

Whatever position is least in the way in its normal usage. Pushed in is closed on all the stoves I remember.
