Makita 18v batteries

Any recommend a decent replacement Makita 18v battery. After the black heavy duty ones 5000ma iirc. Nicd by the way like the red pa18.
No luck on eBay.
Google only finding red pa18 up to 3ah.

Why don't you get a adapter to use the new battery with it

By time I buy one and batteries and charger to match may aswell get new drill....

Aye. Did that a few years back. No regrets.
Finally retired my nicad deWalt stuff after a pin bent in my old skill saw and had a scary experience with smoking batteries a few weeks back. Won't be plugging em back in.

I think the older nicd stuff was better built.
The white Makita stuff looks rubbish.
The new lxt brushless stuff looks ok and appears better built but is pricey.
My old nicd drill is indestructible

yeh my makita ni cad stuff is indistructable I am still debating whether or not to buy a couple of batteries

My old 18v ni-cad (NiMH since ebay) is far more robust than my current Li Makita - that said my current Makita is a B&Q special which in reality cost a 1/3rd of the price at least fifteen years later.

Just get some new cells and recore your old batteries,

If you open the up it will just be like rc car
cells inside.

Even the new lithium ion battery''s just have a pack of 10 (5x2) 18650 batteries in them.

by the time one has purchased those it would be cheaper to purchase a new battery

Yes, but on some tools you can only get inferior copy batteries now,
So if this was the case for the same money at least you can choose your own spec battery and decent quality.

i think the infererior copys use the same cells to be fair, most are made in china and the factories are normally next to each other so I am told

Just at times I prefer repairing rather than replacing

For example;
Turnigy 5000mah sub-c battery
£2.22 a cell,
18v = 12 x 1.5v
So would be £26.64 and a bit of time for a respectable battery pack.

I often do repairs when its less cost effective when I factor in in time, but I just don't like the concept of not being able to fix stuff. Vax now don't sell drive belts for their motorised brush bars so I asked them how to repair mine. They have kindly offered to replace it for free which is great and good customer support BUT I'd rather they just sent me a belt... which I'd happily pay for :-)

Do you spot weld the connections? I havent determined what I would call a safe technique for Li yet so I'd be keen to know what you do.

That is the thing I'm slightly concerned about, need to look further into ithe on lith-ion
