Replace mains smoke alarms in rented proptery

Try long story short went to a very close mates rented property today on a few small jobs back gate not closing and light not working in a high ceiling so can't be easy replaced so done those jobs

When we got there the smoke alarm is bleeping(these are mains powered battery backup and was not told there are doing this) I went and got 2 new batterys and the problem is the same the up stairs one has a green light that says it getting power but the down stairs has no light so assume it's got no power from the mains

Can I replace them leagaly as it's a replacement or will forms need to be filled in

@brightspark poss can you shed light on this or any one else please just want advice will not play with stuff if needs cert work

u can just change them yourself . if u want u can now use just battery ones without mains supply and pick them up for 6 quid a piece instead of 17 quid a piece for the mains battery back up ones in a domestic house

my one at home mains powered beeps sometimes randomly like the battery is dead weird!

as the mains supply is there would like to use the mains is there ant hing i need to do to confirm there are working apart from push the test butten and the lights are on

When I do a CP12 (gas safety check) in a rented propety I have to check smoke alarms and CO alarms, I just make sure they work on the test button.

I always now check they are not monitored as well, lesson learned the hard way...

just renew them and test with button. its only the monitored full fire systems that u do a smoke test on with paperworkl

i know its the landlord to maintain the fire alarm is working but just want to know if i can just replace them like for like there are only 3 wires live nutral and link cable was looking to replace with the exact same ones if possable as that means remove the plug and plug in the new one nice and easy and means i have not done any wiring

it makes no odds if u do wire new ones in. if u cant get the same fit some aico ones cheap enough and easy to fit a monkey can do them

yes that im only helping out as hes ill at the moment and cant get on ladders etc hes very good not one of take the money and dont do any thing got a call and we went round next day and will spend no problem if needed but as i was there i looked but did not touch as do not know the regs on it

looking like i can just replace for him its only up the road and will take 30mins and will be quicker than calling a sparky (no offence to any one )and get one round there asap so there are covered

there a good name i did look at screwfix they seam to do a dicon unit for £12.99 but i dont know the name so what your posting looks good
