The Never Ending Tool List!

Collecting tools is one thing but knowing when to offload/rid of is another, I have dozens of odd ball pullers ,setting tools and gauges that were for working on plant/cars/trucks from over forty years ago. Example of this is a bendix spring compressor, until recently I cant remember when I last used one then a few weeks ago a mate turned up with a Bedford starter that needed the spring removed so dug about and found it, job done. That said there is probably a fair bit of gear that will never get used now but I cant part with it

I always look at it this way: If a job turns up where you need it, will it cost more to buy another than what you sold yours for? Unfortunately, the answer is usually yes, which is why I'm crap at parting with things.

Good morning gents, I am also in the catagory of tool 'collector', and you never stop 'collecting'. When a job comes through the door that you have never done before then some tool may be required. I get those tool and have them for next time, only hire things that are big and will only get used once. There is more than one way to skin a cat, and having a selection of toys you can use something different and get the job done. Need is the mother of all invention and having a selection of toys can make life easier. Though having 5mig welders when I am alone does seem a little over kill. Also 10 corded grinders most of them still in their original packaging unopened, they had a sale and made them attractive, . Cos you don't know when you grinder will just STOP, DO YOU

Henry I think that's next level addiction!

I have a couple of Grinders which is plenty for me & have a Mig Welder & an MMA Machine. But anything more & I will literally be falling over stuff!

I love it when you have a challenging job & straight away you think to yourself I've got just the tool to get me out of this challenge

I am not going to comment as I am not an addict. Every tool I own has its place and is nescessary. Even If i forget where it is or why I bougt it!

Are you not thinking there may be some correlation as to why your tools sound to be at deaths door?

Nope.
Drills were cheap makita and always planned to replace 3 years old.
Planer has been running near ten years
Angle drill is a very very old Hitachi.
Belt sander is old quality makita and still going strong
Jigsaw was a low spec makita also 5+years old
My big chop saw is old dewalt I've owned for 12 years and bought second hand.
I use my tools daily tools wear out. Simples.
There repaired when needed. Replaced when no longer economic.
Polishing my tools doesn't earn me money.
If they get wet there dried before going in the box. Sawdust is blown/hovered off. That's my limit.

Bit like house hold appliances which all age at a similar rate & then you have one year which is an expensive one

Never mind I think you're in the right place and amongst friends.. my name is David and I'm a toolaholic.... it's been half an hour since my last tool purchase...etc.

I would quite like a blasting cabinet, I wondering if its possible to have a 2 in 1 where you can switch from sanding blasting to pressure washing? Obviously drying the cabinet between use otherwise it would be a messy situation! Haha

I don't know if that's possible as the filters etc would get in the way. But the smaller stuff I would do probably would fit in this,

Hello my name is Russ, it's been several months since my last tool purchase.


Er..... actually scrap that last statement as I ordered an ER25 collet chuck with a MT2 taper last week. Oh and a de burr tool.

There is no hope for me, I could probably out tool you all

Worst is the people lined up at the tills at B&Q and the like, with a trolley stacked full of materials and buying all the tools they need to do the job as well. You just know that job isn't going to go well

and its always done on a weekend then the hospitals are busy and I get callouts on a Monday morning

I have a list of tools to get or constant updates and then there's the stuff i just see or bump into lol..I don't drink smoke or have any costly habits apart from tools so i see it as a good thing.
