Tonight's auction find.

A 6" carver clamp, a bit of welding dross on the jaws but it is straight. A snip at £8! I'm guessing nobody else knew what these are worth!

On the other hand there was a 1 tonne engine crane sold for £125 & the ram was pitted with rust. I can get a brand new one delivered to me for £130!

Heres the herbert junior after a clean up .had the mag

chuck apart to free it and re grease .
Unfortunately its too long to grind it in situ but i clocked it and only had to shim it up with a bit of paper to get it to run within 1thou .
I tried it on the handle of an old beat up square and i think with a new stone a dress up with a diamond it will do for valve shims or cleaning up old tools

Although an oldie, the Herbert is a nice size machine for a small shop. I've got one in decent condition, but haven't found a source for proper 6" grinding wheels for it. There are 7" and larger wheels available on the internet, but they won't fit under the guard. Do you know of a source ?

I don't see a guard. You could get 7" wheels and spend half an hour with a dressing wheel, or convert it to a belt.

EDIT: These belt conversions seem to only be on knife making forums, I'm guessing they're not hugely accurate, plus it would be easier just to make a bigger guard.

I was a bit nervous on starting it with a 35 yearold stone stood well out the way and let it run up 6 inch stones are readily available in various shapes and grades white ones are standard fare others for carbide etc very cheap too

Today was a good day, car boot, free breakfast, good finds, good friends and a pup lunch.

Car boot today was busy and lots off good stuff. Not just for me. I also found some stuff for the allotment Men in shed operates.

For the allotment.



A good sturdy "Potting Seat", clean and tidy. £2:00.



A Hose pipe on a stand, from the same table, £3:00. A quick test shows it is all ok.
Both dropped of at the allotment on my way home.



And for me. Just me.



Halfords pressure washer, only thing wrong with it. Well all I could find was the hose pipe adaptor was broken, thus the hose would not stay on.
I had a spare.



Bosch drill, minus a charger, I have the same drill my self. If it is not working I have spares, or it will be donated. Like @Wozzaaah drill to be made into a robot.



Old copper soldering iron. Why? I liked it and I have a plan.

Today is still going well.
I have finished my plan for that old copper soldering iron.



Yes, I could of fitted an old file handle, but I had a few bits of Holly. It was destined for the fire, but as you can see it has turned well. I left the bark, only because removing it would of reduced the handles diameter to a uncomfortable size.

In the background you can see a tent peg mallet in progress.

Oh yes. My good neighbour gave me this axe as well. It was his Grandfathers, but he had no use for it. So I have it now.




It needs a dam good clean up. I have no idea what it is covered with, but meths. and wire wool seams to be softening it up.

I know it is well made and feels good in the hand. The teeth in the "Bolt hole" are in good condition as well.
For £0:10p was worth it.

Brilliant two plug trick , if you did that with three plugs would it be three phase ?
