Remote switching via a text message

I bought a GSM remote controller to switch a wee fan heater on at the workshop. The model number is CL1-GSM and works a treat. Dead simple to wire up. I got a free pay as you go sim from Tesco. Simply send a text to turn it in and then a text to turn it off and it works which I'm always amazed when I wire something.

Does it take that long to warm up your workshop that you have to send it a text message to get ready for your arrival!

I like that, I’m looking at those diesel air heaters for the Disco as the proper fbh are a bit spendy and a timer is no good as my start time varies a lot

Yeah it's cold, hate getting changed into freezing clothes. Hopefully will take the chill off before I get there.

I normally get changed before heading out to the garage, Normally 10-15 minutes after heating the garage I no longer see my breath!

u wont need the heater the wiring will set on fire with dodgy joints and its only single coated how many amps is the switch

Nice idea but think I would prefer it were box mounted with proper Weiduller/Klippon quality terminals inside.

a proper jointbox in the flex and a 2 core double insulated cable going in to it from your switch

Might be worth adding a contactor as well wouldn't trust a Chinese anything switching a heavy resistive load, could start out as a heat source all of its own once the pcb tracks warm up.

That's a good idea but how do I get power to and from the controller to switch it?

put the relay in a 4x4 plastic box. u still only need a 2 core cable from joint box to switch which only operates the relay coil not the full load. your load goes through the relay contacts as above posters diagram

I've had a similar set up for years. I text our lass and say "I'm on me way, put the heater on".
Works every time.
