This morning I went out to do a little job for an old guy in the village , cut down some wild pear trees in a ditch next to his veg plot ..I got them all down and any firewood on the truck, burnt all the brash. I was just tidying up and sticking the bit and bobs into the fire when I found this ..
At first I thought it was a pump out let that had been squashed
Then I looked at the squashed end, it kind of looks like it was'nt round but oval
and if it's pump related ,why make this end this shape when round is fine?
It looks a bit like a exhaust port from a aero engine ...what do you lot think ?

I think you're right, it's the right size and appears to have the right sort of bend from the photos. Looks more Daimler than RR to me.

They are on Crete so it could be almost any European or US manufacturer (assuming it is part of an aero engine).

Looks similar to one of the ME109 variants maybe?

I'll show it to our boss tomoro, he will more than likely know. It's definitely an aero engine stub though

Well I found this photo of the Daimler 605 that I think was the engine in the ME109...if you look at the exhaust bolt holes they do look like the same pattern as the holes on the thing I found ....

The Merlin had a 4 stud outlet and a web inside so that's ruled out, it could be from a Me109 or Me110 the evidence is starting to appear.......

Yeah...it's getting interesting ... I just emailed a friend of mine in Athens who's family are from this village,he is also a war history enthusiast, and asked him if there are any stories of planes coming down in this area ... I'll keep you posted... funny thing is ..Iv'e seen this thing here for years when I'm walking the dogs and thought that looks like a bit from a irrigation pump....it was only today 'cos I was there with the truck that picked it up and really looked at it and thought "exhaust outlet "...

It is getting interesting, I was never interested in history at school, all those Kings, Queens and Romans I had no interest what so ever but give me some industrial archeology or social history of the last 100 years or so I love it.

its not particularly interesting at the moment, its a long, long term project for a custome9r, however db605 internals are few and far between.i believe numbers around 300k have been quoted for a complete one. this one remains a crank case for the time being.
