acetylene safety

I've been offered a couple of half full, full size bottles of oxy and acetylene. Can I transport the acetylene 15 miles laid down in the car?

I get the impression you can transfer them horizontally if you need to, But they must be left to stand before use in the vertical position.

they are subject to exemption based on the transport category calculation (no eq no lq).. the packing must be secure of course - p200, it is weight depending.. you can carry them anyway, but if you ask about legality, the adr stuff tells you the details...

I carried a couple of full size bottles in back of van 50 miles and it was full of gear. the most dangerous part was it was down on the springs at the back

Make sure you stand the DA upright overnight before you use it

It's all very well transporting them, but where are they to be kept and used? That is a bigger problem.
Insurance, fire/bomb risk etc etc. Many businesses can't use acy. because of this. If you are in an estate and you have a fire, there are dire consequences.
Just be aware of these things before taking it on.

doom and gloom id better get rid of my bottles just in case . the majority of gas bottle accidents is sloppy use non maintained gear and bad storage .overcome that and there is no problem

My fear wasn't the bottles exploding or catching fire. It was the thought of not being insured if garage itself had a fire. If you are near a school or other businesses, they need to evacuate a large area. It could nullify your house or business insurance, should one go off, or have other business claim you for costs.
I hadn't realised that as my mate who has garage and Mot station warned me about the situation. He cannot use acy because of risk and massive insurance. He has housing estate and a railway station within 500 yards.

A lot of what's said about DA is urban myths, if you are at all concerned get hold of the relevant legislation and see what the governing bodies/emergency services recommend

a 600 gallon workpit full of water. tin garage. gear nowhere near anything flammable. all turned off and pipes purged 3 fire extinguishers and a water supply with hose permanently connected so I think that about covers it along with over 40 years using the stuff the majority of people that call it haven't got it or ever used it
