My ideal independent c30 combi has stopped working,

The problem is when I try to fill up the heating loop the pressure drops off back to zero in a few seconds.
The water is flowing out through the condensation drain pipe.

Does this mean what I think it does?
Fooked heat exchanger?

It sounds like a serious leak in the boiler. There's no way the filling loop should be able to dump through the condensate pipe. Are you sure it's not coming form the pressure release valve pipe?

I am sure mate I can see it flowing through the syphon trap in the bottom of the boiler and out of the plastic condensation drain pipe the 22mm plastic pipe when the fill loop is turned onto fill

In which case it sounds like a seal may have gone, unless there's some terminal corrosion somewhere. I'm guessing it's a fairly new boiler, though, so it's more likely to be a seal, in my opinion.

A seal would be great news, I will hav to dig deeper, my mate suggested cracked heat exchanger or heat engine as it is called

It's a possibility the heat exchanger has cracked. I've done a bit more research and it would appear that it is a likelihood it's gone. Expensive repair (c. £330 for the heat engine kit, plus labour), hopefully it's still in warranty.

id say heat exchanger busted the pipes should be at the side within its own loop on the exchanger

however on looking its a plate exchanger so isnt that

is it flowing out your auto expansion valve pipe ?

Internal leak on main heater changer would do it, if you have the main front off and can see the trap the top connection is just push fit if it's coming out of that pipe when you try to fill it then its split, they did have issues with a few and it's been cold enough for frost to split them if it's been left off over worst of the weather.

Obviously your removing and checking things that could potentially lead to a leak in flue gasses should it start to work so usuall bla bla disclaimers/warnings

Heat exchanger failed, common Ideal problem. It may be under warranty so I’d give them a call first

cant why people say its the wrong time for it to go inconvient time

its going to brake when your using it the car on the way to hospital/work
heating in the winter its the only time you use it
cooker when your cooking the dinner or you would not know its broken

When you've just bought a proper boiler and are about to throw the combi junk in the skip where it belongs ?

@123hotchef now might a good time to upgrade to a traditional condensing boiler if you've got the space for a hot water tank, It'll probably work out cheaper in the long run, it did for me.

er we ripped the decent one out when we refurbed the house and replaced it with this junk

^ oops, I made a similar mistake, replaced economy7 storage heaters with a combi, after 7 years and spending more fixing it than it cost brand new I scrapped it for a traditional and never regretted doing so.

No, its some horrible high silica pressure cast aluminium thing and its cracked inside

my house is rather large. I had a baxi back boiler and now have a conventional wall mounted boiler using the tank and a y plan set up
