moving Harrison L5

not sure if this is right palce to post........

I am about to move my new harrison L5 lathe, can anyone tell me how to remove lathe from its cabinet base. It seems to be held down by 4 bolts.

The Lathe bed is bolted to the cabinet at the factory, it is not recomended to split them. There are two big holes through the cabinet at each end through which large bars can be passed for lifting from. Dont lift using a bar through the headstock or you will ruin it.
These are very top heavy.

As above,

Do not remove the machine from the cabinet.

Do not lift it by the chuck/headstock.

Do lift it by passing bars through the cabinet.

Depends how far you need to move it.
I have jacked them up - then placed a pallet underneath at the point of balance and used a pallet truck to move.
Lathes are a nightmare - all the weight at one end.
Don't forget to move the tailstock and the carriage as far as possible to the right to balance it a bit better.

Bars through the cabinet and an engine crane will let you get it on a pallet.

Careful the straps don't lean against the lead screw or feed shaft and bend them.

The L5 24" centres weighed between 650lbs to 750lbs depending how it equipped. As stated above 2 steel bars about 33" inches long though the holes just below the drip tray then an engine crane, pallet, pallet truck, don't split the lathe from the cabinet.

6/750 kg, not pounds. Big difference!
