not all plumbers do some wont use it point blank others do because that's all the punter will pay for . I won't have any push fit or plastic in my house. all copper. u get what u pay for

Well I used them when I turned an upstairs bedroom into a bathroom, that was approx 15 years ago and all the ones on the hot water side have all started leaking in the last few weeks

with age and heat they become hard same as in an engine

The plumber we use can't stand the stuff, if he comes across any plastic pipework his usual comment is "installed by a plastic plumber"

a plumber mate of mine I nicknamed him pollypipe and it stuck the nickname (not the pipe )

I have a few of the old paraffin blowlamps, they can solder plumbing joints just as well as the gas blowlamps if not better because the flame seems to be hotter than the gas flames. The gas blowlamps have taken over due to being able to have instant starts, much cleaner to use, no maintenance and without the smell of paraffin. I find the petrol ones are better in that most do not require a pump and the on/off tap has a built in pricker to clear the jet. Most people seem to collect them as a hobby rather than use them for plumbing work nowadays.

Infuriating things when they start playing up, leather seals, nozzle prickers, coked up vaporiser tubes, drive you up the wall. Best used as ornaments now that paraffin is not cheap anymore.

That’s a load of rubbish, plastic has its place (like the bone dry loft with old horse hair insulation, only a fool would solder up there)

I solder every day, gas is convenient and safer than paraffin but it will melt lead free solder, it’s not that much different melting point

i don't like plastic but have quite a lot of dealings with plumbers and they don't solder much, last couple of new builds ive been around i don't think there is a solderd joint in them anywhere
