Is that the ones that take ages to get the light level up?I'd argue that a 100w LED floodlight is more comparable with a 500w halogen, granted this doesn't make the LED sound quite as good but as far as illumination level I feel it's a lot more honest.
I've always had to fit an LED of a higher rating than the conversion tables would tell you to use to get a similar level of illumination.
I've a pair of 400w halogens on a stand that really pumps out the light (and heat) but I haven't found an LED equivalent that I'm happy with, for long time illumination I stick to Metal Halide.
Any links mate?ive been fitting a lot of cheep 48w 12v round chineese led flood lamps on the plant, at £8 each we just put them on an econoseal plug fully expecting short service life but havent had any fails yet, and we've been fitting thrm in basty places because theer cheep

I can comment on them I've had 3 one has worked perfectly for of over 2 years the others popped. Are those a decent solution.
Metal Halide take a few minutes to get to full brightness and don't like being switched off and then back on while still hot, I always leave mine on when I go for lunch etc to avoid the hot-restrike problem. But in terms of light output and especially quality of light I prefer them over LED, I have them on a separate circuit from everything else in my garage so if I trip something out I don't loose the lights especially with MH not restarting for several minutes. Is that the ones that take ages to get the light level up?
What are they like on cost to run? I think i have one in my garage over the up and over door.Metal Halide take a few minutes to get to full brightness and don't like being switched off and then back on while still hot, I always leave mine on when I go for lunch etc to avoid the hot-restrike problem. Cheap is the quick answer. I have a few 70w Metal Halides, I prefer a pairs to just a single 150w as you can set them up so they overlap so help reduce shadows. The light off them is not very diffused so you tend to get very black shadows where the light doesn't fall. I have 2 setup in my garage so I illuminate the car from both sides so when I'm in the engine bay there is very little that isn't well lit. What are they like on cost to run? You can get quite a few different colours of Metal Halide bulb, I stick with the standard white but you can get blue, green etcI have a nice 400watt sodium lighting up my backyard, I would have liked a Metal Halide, but they give off a brilliant blueish white light but here in Qld.
