Motor bearings

in particular, clarke motor bearings. Have a 1.5 hp Clarke motor on my lathe, and it eats bearings for fun. It's had maybe 4/5 hrs total use since I put a set in last, and they're rattling their brains out again. Used skf so decent bearings, unless they were Chinese clones :/

Maybe interesting to send the bits back to SKF? They will be able to test the metal to see whether or not they're genuine.

That's a shout! If it's not one thing it's another, landrover gearbox layshaft bearings failed last week too

Something must be bent or out of balance to kill the bearings that quickly, unless the belt is insanely tight!

Belts not tight enough to ruin bearings! Once this sodding great drills off the bench and in its corner I'll get the lathe motor off and swear at it a lot

Hi, From what I understand SKF are one of the most counterfeited bearings. They used to be just the boxes with cheap bearings, now it's the bearings as well.

That's a shout! If it's not one thing it's another, landrover gearbox layshaft bearings failed last week too

Now we've got two sets of data it shouldn't be too hard to find the common denominator

Haha I had nothing to do with the fitting the Disco box bearings. They've done 230k so not too bad I suppose...

Get a replacement set from RS and send the failed ones to skf to be assessed.

Every possibility I guess, it is a Clarke, not exactly the first name in quality

Might be worth swopping to self aligning ones or is there some thing earthing through the races
