Ethernet Stuff

I have an ethernet cable to the TalkTalk Freeview box thingy.
My new TV has an ethernet socket. I can get Freeview, Amazon etc on the TV.

But the TalkTalk box can record programmes so I would like to 'feed' both from the one 'supply' at the same time.

So will this work:

Yes, but they not the best quality, something in a metal case is usually better. Just from the abuse they can suffer when they get knocked about.

If the cable to your recorder box runs back to a hub with a spare outlet you can get a pair of splitters that use both sets of pairs in the cable you plug into each end of your cable then at one end 1 to recorder & 1 to tv then at the other end both go to the hub.

To save starting another thread, I've got a single socket upstairs fed from the BT router downstairs, could I plug one of those into it to give me a couple more sockets upstairs?

Why is that?

Because the small hubs have no management on them.
With a managed switch each device is plugged into a separate port on that switch, so if they need to set up a rule for a device they can. If you then plug a 4 port hub into a network socket and connect devices to it, any rule you create on the managed switch affects all the devices plugged into the hub.
Its brilliant for us as if IT come across an 8 port hub under a bank of desks somewhere they then employ us to install 7 new network points and take out the old hub.

I've managed to rescue 3 Netgear hubs so I just need to find some packaging then they will be on their way.
