Hi guys.
Popped in to my local paint suppliers to get 1 litre of RAF blue grey paint for painting my abwood shaper vice. Only to be told it would cost £85 Plus vat !!!!! 85 faffing pound !!!!! I can't find the original paint code for the shaper...they can stick 85 plus the dreaded ...

Have a look at Vapormatic paints, tractor enamel works out £16-20/L if you have a supplier local. You can even get it on ebay

Check smith and Allen. They mix Techaloid to ral code. My only gripe is you've got to be quick with it. Tacks up very fast.

Don't no how good the b and q paint is. But it's for metal. It will get scratches ECT.

While taking pics for you I attacked the saddle I painted 5 weeks ago with a sharp screwdriver. No marks no scratches. Takes a while to fully harden though. 40 quid for 5 litres or 15 for 1. I'll be using it again. Think it was techaloid 813 from memory.

Can you not get a mix to a RAL colour, should cost any more as they just mix.

If you have a crown decorating centre locally they normally have RAL colour cards you can look at. Will give you an idea what colour you need.

I managed to take the little side door off the metal shaper. I took to b and q and they matched the colour. It's a nice grey and thinking the lathe would look nice in it. I thought it was RAF blue/grey .

The one I got mixed at b and q does state it's for metal. Will also try and see what it's like.

They are the ones who sold me a tin of floor paint as metal paint, then told me there's no difference except one is a bit runnier.

You're welcome to take what I have left to see if you can get it to spray because I sure as hell couldn't....

That doesnt sound good, i was getting some 2 pack epoxy for the suds tray on the lathe re build, i have it stripeed and have welded up the extra holes. Just got to mod the tank to get some better filtering before returning to the tank.
