Definitely. It's a good repair. It's in line ECT. So will probably do as you suggested with the JB weld just to finish off before paint ECT.

Mine has a crack / fracture on the top plate that the saw guides / rails slide in and out of - as id someone has over-tightened one of the corners in the past.

It works fine as-is, but im fearful that if it ever needs attention for another reason, it will finish cracking then.

Im running with the "if it aint broke...." concept at present!

Yes.. I no the bit. It might be worth welding it now. Just in case it does eventually crack all the way.

My glorious task today is prep work for welding. Have nickel rods...propane bottle has run out so can't use that ffs. Forgot to get a sand . Got a hot air gun and a fire blanket so doing well!!!!!!

I've used mine in anger for the first time this afternoon. I think every single bush in it is shot, but it still cuts nice and straight. Needed a bit of a shove occasionally to keep it moving but It's not been used for a while, and once the oil got into it things improved. Why have I been messing about cutting stuff with an angle grinder all this time?

Yes. Angle grinders are good. But after a while it kind of gets to p ya off. Nearly done welding mine and then I can get it cleaned and in primer..

That's what I looking forward to get the saw done. Stick metal in. Let it do it's thing while I go and brew up.

The repair is all done. Got one more crack to take care of. All in all a good repair that came out good.

Both repairs now done. The pins fit very well. Just put the head back on to check everything is good. Happy days. On with the clean up and prep work.

Funny you should say that. I found a price list for Colchester lathes in 1972, and a normal Bantam machine (without all the accessories) came in at 700 pounds. Inflation calculator time, it is about 8000-9000 pounds today, however when you see the price they go for today, often about 2000 pounds used, that sort of depreciation is really quite acceptable for 45 years use. I bet you couldn't find a brand new machine of the spec they were made to then for six grand more than a used model today.

I got some nice lister green. Brunswick green. Some of that with a dash of black.
