Old tractors anyone?

I have a old nuffield somewhere in the back garden !! and a backactor for it on a plant trailer that i havnt seen for years.

I think I prefer the patina/unrestored ones to the over restored, super shiny examples that are seen at most shows in the UK.If anyone's got one like that please don't take offence, just my personal preference.

In the uk agri shows they have a policy of a ten year 'window' for articles to be matched together, which I think is stupid, in the real world having worked on farms in the olden days you might have say a particular plough for a small field or say a tator patch and you wouldnt get the ten10 furrow out or get the old fergie to pull the old plough, you would use the new ford ( or whatever), same with harvest stuff some of it could be 50yrs old and some kit had been adapted from being pulled by horses, what pulls it doesnt matter, old trailers for instance if it will carry it and the wheels go round--- so be it--- it gets pulled. We have used 40yr old corn trailers with a brand new combine when on long hauls, a bit of agri kit is just that---- agri kit.
the pulling bit is what usually wears and gets replaced first.

Coming from a farming community. I couldnt agree more, there were bits of kit that only got used for one or two jobs a year, the rest of the time they were covered in nettles. They got paired up with whatever was at hand. Trailers that needed 20 feed sacks stuffed in the holes to stop the grain running out of them. Make stift greedy boards etc.

Do miss been on the farm.

talkin old agri stuff at the autosport show in jan I was talkin to the guy that had the tractor pulling tractor on show and it was very interesting, his semi stock case was producing upward of 4000 hp 4K!! and still used the original block AND crank----- 35yrs old !! and at launch was sat at 8000 rpm !! FFS--- how over engineered where they !

I agree, my Fergie Te20 is 69 years old, has the petrol tank on top of the engine and is still going strong.

Young kids will never have the pleasure that we got back then too much HS nowadays
can remember just 2 of you leaving the tractor going in gear, jumping off walking along side loading/ throwing lines of bales up to your stacker on the trailer, then jumping back on at the end of the field turning round and back again that was before they got the flat 8 and loader

Just thought, using that analogy does that mean if you have a horse drawn bit of kit you can only show it if you have a 100yr old horse in the shafts !!!

Been there done that, set it off in the tramlines the sprayer first made, and off it trundles barely walking pace.
Of coarse been a farm there were plenty of stuff to be mischievous with, I got myself into some right pickles, some too frightened to call for help, [risking a bollocking] I had figure it out for myself. School of hard knocks some would say. I believe I'm a better person for it though.

Kids today dont have to think for themselves, bubble wrapped in the PC H&S blame society, so ironically they aren't to blame. I guess we are, for letting it happen.

ha yeah there was a few near misses, like a slope in the stack yd where 'MY' dexta was parked on, in the exact place every day to the inch --- to start it, coz its battery was iffy fine once running all I did was to jump on sit on the seat dip the clutch push down on the rear tyre and away down the bank drop the clutch and away, driving ----- this time someone else parked it and it was a foot too far back and wouldnt roll,and me totally on my own, so had to get off to force the rear wheel round and out of the 1/2" dip it was sat in well, it moved---- and I didnt--- well quick enough----- and I ran over my own foot I then had to run after the flippin thing with a broken toe to jump on, it going ever faster by the second---- me trying to steer, get a leg over the gear box press the clutch and get it in gear all at the same time !!
I did it though ----- JUST!! It would have meant me having to walk the 2mls all the way back to field and admit i had failed.
