how to test a Generator with out starting it !!!!!!!

Hi Guys

Many years ago, I bought a very nice 5 odd KVA generator to have on stand by at my workshop,
I run the diesel motor up and plugged in a angle grinder, but never really tested it under load,

Will its time to sell the generator and I want to be sure its fully working before a advertise it as such.

My workshop in in a residential area, and being Diesel and with no silencer I dont fancy making a lot of noise

how else can I test the thing before I sell it.

Take it somewhere you can make more noise.

Unless you'll be running it for hours in end I'm sure your neighbours can put up with the noise for a small amount of time! Just don't do it at an un godly hour!

Just try restricting the exhaust pipe end a little, it can make a big difference.

Ha ha I read that and thought how the heck could you force a silencer to be obedient, spell check is a wonderful thing

Make sure the angle grinder still runs off it and you can use it as a demo when a buyer turns up. A 2 or 3 kW fire/heater will put a decent load on it, but the neighbours will certainly think you're mad using one in summer

Got it out from under the stairs where she's been for the last 7 years doing nothing

Now to deside what's it worth in today's market

I had paid £1,250 but I don't think I'll get that for it.
it's 7kva and both hand and electric start

As you can see in the first couple of photos
I had mounted the diesel tank on a self but it does come with its own stand

yes they are noisy so don't test it at silly o'clock
