You know that you could quite easily replace that broken section with some heavy walled SHS/RHS or else some C beam and if it had too much gap in between the walls you cold just pad it out with some stitched flat bar, the front could easily be fabricated to hold the front jaw as well.

True, personally I have a dislike for vices made of cast iron especially if you are going to give them a bit of stick either by beating on them or putting the tension on, but that one looked like it had a beefier back end so could be resurrected easily/cheaply enough with some scrap steel if you had some lying around.
Is there something wrong with me, I find that vice strangely sexy!
Nice sleek lines, the way the front jaw curves, the way the back jaw slides in & out, mmmm, urrrgh, ahhh.
Now where did I put the tissues?

Very nice indeed. I was after a Fortis with dual front swivel jaws a few months back - didn't win the auction as the reserve of $300 was not met!!! I know they're rare but that's silly money.

Offsets are fairly common here because Dawn of Australia churn them out. From what I've heard they're good, usually find their way into welding rooms. Alongside that Fortis pattern, I am also on the hunt for a Dohm turret vice. I'm not going to say it's impossible to find one here in NZ, because you think 'oh, there won't be any of them down here' then the next week you see one! I heartily respect the people that bothered to ship all the heavy gear in my workshop from England all the way here!

Finally, she's all done & dusted, both vice & stand. I'm actually going to use this one too. She had her first use tonight, and in typical fashion, one of the first things that happened was a chunk of cut flesh when I lost concentration and the handle slammed down on my hand.

Finally, she's all done & dusted, both vice & stand. I'm actually going to use this one too.
An o-ring on both ends of the handle just behind the ends helps prevent this!

I must have a vice for vices. I couldn't really let this one go by, so I bid high. What I should be doing, is purchasing a Welder for when my new garage / workshop is completed. At the moment I don't really have room for either, as my storage unit is just about packed to capacity, and it's like a jigsaw puzzle to put everything back so I can close the door. Anyway, this Jones and Shipman tilt & turn vice was advertised as a 3", which appealed to me for mill and surface grinder use. However, when it arrived it was actually a 4", which had jaws that opened to 3". So ok, the girl who was selling it made a mistake regarding which demention to post. I'm not unhappy though, as it is superbly made with dovetail ways, and except for some minor surface oxidation and paint issues could pass for new old stock. Only problem..... its too large for either of my machines; but I guess we can't have too many vices, can we ?
The vice has an interesting feature I haven't seen before. There are two round plates under the base which rotate to lock or unlock each tilt or turn mechanism using a removable handle. Here are some photos.

Still can't decide whether I like the colour of that 112 or not. Sprayed it midweek as I was pushed for time and didn't want it rusting again, (steel is worse than CI for that), but it's the type of colour I normally avoid like the plague for machinery. A couple of coats of alu-zinc, with a coat of clear to finish. It's not garish, but I think I'm having a job adjusting to the fact that I've actually painted something grey.
This is the one which started out looking like this, (and which was totally seized):

Nothing wrong with grey for machinery. What's disconcerting is that you've chosen to use something other than Roundel Blue for a Record
