I have a bit of an optics fetish - I have 2 telescopes - a spotting scope and about 10 pairs of binoculars. Oh and a microscope!
Best binoculars ever are the old East German Carl Zeiss. You can get a pair for about £150 in mint condition that are far better than any fancy modern pair!

Might as well put it in here, the holiday cottage we stay at has a pair of these for guests to use
What I found odd was once the eyepieces had been set for my eyes there was no central focusing wheel
they were in focus from a few yards to a few miles without adjusting anything and the clarity was amazing.

A lot of marine binoculars are still eyepiece focusing to maintain waterproofing. And no they don't need focusing much.
That is why I hate autofocus cameras. usually outdoors you are on infinity and never need to focus. Air displays are a pain with modern cameras. Even using an expensive high end DSLR and a 400mm lens you are still at inifinity. Then the stupid camera starts hunting for focus and you lose the shot. Yes you can use them manually but they are never as good as my old Canon A1 was!

I have spent far too many hours trying to photograph our woodpecker with a pair of bins and an i-phone, good results but by the time I've got them vaguely aligned its filled its belly and gone.. every time I say right I'm going to make a little bracket to hold this lot.... still not done it.
I've got a DSLR with a yard of lens on it but its always miles away from where I need it ;-/

I bought Mrs Robo one of these for her phone as she likes to take pictures of birds at the stables but doesn't always take her DSLR with her.

The video and picture quality on most new phones is incredible - and then people take shots vertically gggrrrrr!

Mines an old iphone 5 and a bit poor, I like apple stuff but I 'think' Samsung cameras are always a long way ahead of them.
Not only the cameras but OLED screens are way ahead and I have never broken one either!
Yes those photos are! Lovely place as well as Ferryside.
I used to live in the Brecon Beacons and thought that was remote but North of Carmarthen is even worse. Nearest shop is 14 miles away. No neighbours at all though and totally black skies. Nowhere near as bleak as the Beacons though!
