Fizzy, you are spot on ref fibreglass pencil, take care, clean over a piece of A4 paper and dispose of paper carefully after use.
Never had a problems with fibreglass splinters, well not doing this job anyway. Just remember to wash yourself in cold water so you rinse off any fibreglass bits, if you use warm your pores open and then the trouble starts.I see people mentioning fibre glass pencil. They are the spawn of the devil. The splinters get everywhere and hurt like hell.

I think you can buy copper repair ribbon which might be easier to use.
