I see people mentioning fibre glass pencil. They are the spawn of the devil. The splinters get everywhere and hurt like hell.

Never had a problems with fibreglass splinters, well not doing this job anyway. Just remember to wash yourself in cold water so you rinse off any fibreglass bits, if you use warm your pores open and then the trouble starts.

I suppose you could wear nitrile gloves or something similar if you really don't want to chance it.

Think of the splinters in your eyes - could get VERY nasty!

I've had the odd itch, but it's about taking care. If you're going to waft the dust everywhere then expect to have problems.

I think you can buy copper repair ribbon which might be easier to use. I use bicarbonate of soda to neutralise the acid then clean, repair and tin.

If there's a section of track that has been completely burnt out then that's a good way to fix it. In this case I wouldn't bother.
