They were all good workers but none matched her.

had a big hob, named "fluffy" by my nephew. he was the single angriest animal ive ever seen. useless for working because you couldnt get near him to bung him into the box or down the hole. if you opened his cage door he would literally throw himself at you. when feeding him you had to wear a welding gauntlet to keep him occupied otherwise hed do some serious damage.

could never work out what his problem was, i handled him as much as i handled the rest of the litter, but he was just not quite right in the head.

the other hob used to escape, go for a walk and then come back and put himself to bed

I had a jill like that, she was found in a field, or rather she attacked some friends in a field. Luckily one of them knew how to pick up a stroppy half grown ferret.. She mellowed in later life and would only attack if you took your eyes off her.

i didnt make it but the hail storm made a big mess! in my garage, blocked the bloody gutters up before it poured down then flodded the place! out came the wet vac and sucked it all away now is drying merrily man never seen anything like it

There is an MOD Firing range beside where I live and as a kid we used to be over there all the time when they weren't firing. One day whilst ferreting a load of young ferrets came pouring out of a burrow being chased by a big useless polecat ferret I was using, these things were barking like a dog, hissing and spitting and were as wild as anything we had seen and smelled worse we caught one but it was just going crazy so we had to let it go

That polecat I had was really too big, he easily killed rabbits and feasted on them and fell asleep, we usually just left him and went back the next day and when he heard us he would come ambling out, this day however he was not there so that was him lost. No big deal really as he was useless but he was a big softy so that is why I kept him. Anyway about a year later we were out and who should we see but Angus Og (that was what we called him) he knew us right away and came towards us but his back legs were just being dragged along. His muscles were wasted away in the back legs and not really sure why but we suspected maybe a tick infestation had taken too much blood from the muscles and wasted them, there was certainly no sign of damage to the bones or anything so it is the only thing we could think of. Anyway he came home with us and lived out the rest of his life in comfort

Today I made a couple of simple jigs up to bend some 12mm stainless to make lifting hooks for fish boxes.

Here are the hooks before I pickled them, the guy came early to pick them up so never got a chance to take a pic after the pickling paste had done its magic

Also did a bit more work to a cooler that I had started the day before, hopefully will get it finished tomorrow. I also really need to get a welding bench made as balancing everything on the vice for welding makes things awkward and doing nice pretty welds can be hard, well that is my excuse anyway

Wasn't at the workshop long today so only got a wee bit done to the cooler.
Made a grill for the front and bored and tapped the back for a gland for the mains cable.

Also finished painting the Elephant from the last day and discovered I now have a negative image on my workshop door

Started on a roller hauling system for a creel boat today.

First off I cut 2 of 220mm Dia x 16mm thick stainless circles on the plasma then bored out the centre to 38mm to accept stub shafts and welded them in place.

Next into the lathe to turn the OD down to 218mm dia

and then put a step of 203mm dia by 7mm

Then tapped them into the ends of 1.2m of 8" NB Sch40 stainless pipe and welded them up.

Now for the PITA bit, making the sides for the roller to sit in, it is an oldish wooden hull and curves this way and that way and probably another half a dozen different ways, not looking forward to it, especially as the forecast for tomorrow is rain and more rain

Made a switch for my wood lathe, gonna sell it on now that I have another lathe with bigger capacity so I figure it needs to be ready to use. I had also mounted a slower 3ph motor, but I put the original 1ph motor back on for this. It's a british made lathe, sometime in the 70s.

Nah just general fabrication stuff, winches for moving antenna masts and other antenna supports etc.

A lathe is the one machine I could not do without. Mills are handy, CNC plasmas too but a lathe is a necessity for me.

I suspect that should also read a 'substantial' lathe is essential, I have two lathes, I suspect my little Boxford which is the one I can use would struggle to make such big stuff. The other is a bigger Colchester that is in need of refurbishment. Retired now I might actually get round to that... once the portal frame shed to put it in is done..... I should be there today measuring steel but its too wet and windy...
