I been looking for a good set of mole grips for ages. Most are totally crud.
Yeah why can't them yanks get it wright always makin spilling mistakes, whot we shud have done was go over there hundreds off years ago and teach them proper hinglish like wat we speek.Just had a wee chuckle when you said mole grips and then talked about vice grips (really vise as they are American origin)
Most of my stuff was purchased like this, Both my Son and Brothers do the same, in the past people like Draper Kamassa etc used Heyco in Germany for spanners and ETC in Japan for sockets so the quality was excellent and if you know what to look for you could tell who made them, I feel the tool trade has changed quite a bit as we have virtually no UK manufacturing of hand tools that I am aware of?I'd rather buy tools such as adjustables, pliers and molegrips from autojumbles and vintage rallies.
Even the cheap rubbish of years ago is miles better than a lot of the tat we get fed now.
If only they kept on manufacturing, they could have sole the Chinese stuff as a different model, I feel they would have sold more in total if they sold US and Chinese made together as its could be aimed at different buyers. Lets face it pics up both in the shop and if one is a few quid more but US made I feel you would buy it?Was just reading up on the history of the Vise Grips, this is a sad bit but all too familiar in this gloabal age of cost cutting.
"In 2008, the original Vise-Grip manufacturing plant in Dewitt, Nebraska, closed when the parent company moved production to China. Over 330 people from Dewitt (population 600) and surrounding communities were out of work. "
Then again I suppose we all want cheap stuff, well maybe not all of us, most here would rather pay for quality but the general buying public wont.
For the professionals among us, I agreed with buying top quality, but for all I need [holding bits in the pillar drill, clamping to weld etc] I just use stuff from Lidl and it serves me well enough.
Can you let me know please mate once you have had a bit of hard use out of them.Think I am going to get a pair of the Wurth Zebra ones to test out, Rep is going to be getting chibbed about the postage cost I have just been charged for my last order (should have been free but they cancelled one item) so I may get a good deal
Will be a while as the Rep only comes every 4 weeks or so.Can you let me know please mate once you have had a bit of hard use out of them.
