I body filled, polyester spray filled and epoxy primed a panel 2 1/2 months ago. I then guide coated it. I then cracked on with fully spraying other panels and decided to leave this one until last.
I sprayed base coat over the panel yesterday and it’s a mess. I’m having to use the base as a guide coat to flatten it again as it appears to have shrunk and now lumps are visible. Luckily I half guessed this might happen and only sprayed base over the primer areas. I’m glad I didn’t spray it in full months ago.
I spoke to the guy in the panel spraying shop I bought my base coat from the other day. He said he bakes all his primed panels in his paint booth.
I’m wondering if he does this so shrinkage is apparent immediately? After all he did say he blocks his panels 3 times.
Makes me wonder if I should be using my infrared lamps for hours afterwards.
