Yes, I found that earlier. Unfortunately they are NLA from Jag and there are no type approved aftermarket ones.Type approved, not OEM.
It's a 2002 4.2 XK8.Not exactly good for the environment scrapping a perfectly good car just because there are no replacement catalytic convertors available. Yet another example of ill thought out legislation. What difference does it make if the CAT does what it's meant to?
What model and year do you have?

However I bought a pair of second hand cats 7 years ago and only fitted the other one (that I just repaired above), this one has been on the shelf since.

When they were still available from Jag, they were about £1500 each. The earlier 4.0 cars have aftermarket cats available but the later 4.2l cats have nothing.
I think that the MOT rules state that from a certain date ~2002 all cars have to be fitted with OEM cats. I think that's why there are no aftermarket parts available.
Does anyone know the truth of this?
Anyway the car will be SORNed at the end of the month and I'll do the swap after that and a bit of work on the near side sill.
In theory yes, but would like to hear what @doubleboost would say.Interesting. Before I put my daughter's 106 through the MoT I put a new cat on it, I could smell unburnt fuel whenever it was idling, sure enough some bodger had gutted the innards.
The replacement was from a local motor factor, I never thought to ask about type approval. It was covered in various manufacturers' stickers, I thought that would stink when it burned off so before fitting I cleaned it back to bare metal with a wire wheel.
So it went in for the test with an obviously brand new cat, but with no markings. MoT man accepted it, no questions. So would that be a fail on a newer vehicle?
A smear of exhaust paste would do the job .I would personally have thought a teaspoon of reinforced body filler smudged would have solved the issue personally to get through the MOT.
