Another useful item is a hardpoint saw.........they are thin enough already, very hard and easy to sharpen.....ive made blades and scrapers out of them
anyone know a good (UK?) source for sandvik steels? I'm after a lump of 4mm thick.
It seems I can order a 250m x 360mm piece for about £70 - but only from Greece, or Lapland (!)
someone in the UK must stock it to buy online?
depends what you want it forSurely too thin for a knife? the hardpoint saws I have are only .4? .6? millimeter. They're OK to make cabinet scrapers though?
I've made a few marking knives out of die-cutting/folding "knives". any box/carton cutting firm is likely to have some scrap bits lying about. Comes in 25 or 50mm width, and 1mm to 3mm thickness.

The only stuff I have ever managed to get hold of has had to come in from Europe.
I have got some of the sandvik blade stainless I can sort you out with a bit that size I expect but I think its probably nearer 6mm thick. I can dig it out if you want me to have a look.
I have got a decent stock of O1 tool steel as well in most thickness which would be quite a bit cheaper than the sandvik..
good knotAll finished, need recommendations for a good countersink that won’t round off after one hole, 5-12mm holes

Not necessarily all the way to the centre but a nice smooth deep countersink. I’ll try to find some decent cobalt ones unless you have any recommendations?
Time to build the propane forge then....My recommendation would be to anneal it, countersink it, re-heat-treat it
I have got some cobalt ones but I think they might all be on taper shanks. I will have a look tonight.

One I’m working on at the moment

I heated up the tang until blue to soften slightly, drilled straight through and countersunk just using HSS, could be smoother but this one so will obviously have scales so just somewhere for the epoxy to go around the brass pins

Can’t tell you any more than an old rasp. Blade is still hard but think I am going to try a proper heat treat at the weekend to make sure and for a bit of practicewhats the material?
